In the artist book Waiting for red pigtails, text and image complement each other in a subtle way. The book is based on Julia Peirone's still image movie of the same title. The text (represented in the film by one voice) supports the structure and content. Various girls appear and the text describes the girls' look, what they wear or do. After a while, the text starts to change in form and content. The order is reversed, new descriptions of the same girls are made. The text takes the viewer behind the surface, with a slightly surreal tone.
