Illustrations by George Petty.FuturaandSpartanare often impossible to tell apart without seeing the actual metal type, so we could very well be seeing either or both here. But I'm going with Spartan given the American origin, the signpainter's quotes, the '1' with a flat terminal on the top horizontal, and the non-descending 'J'.
