The motto of the French publishing house Editions Larousse is: Je sème à tout vent – "I sow to all winds". It is ascribed to architect and designer Émile Reiber (1826–1893). The first logo from 1876 features this motto together with a dandelion. Later versions of the Larousse logo – including the current one – depict a woman blowing flower seeds, known as the semeuse ("the sower"). Excoffon dispenses with the semeuse and goes back to the roots by reducing the logo to the dandelion – indicated as stylized white seeds. The background consists of rainbow-colored stripes, since this version of the Petit Larousse illustré comes in color.
